India added three more medals to its athletics tally at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday, with Gulveer Singh, Pooja Singh and the mixed relay quartet winning bronze. The Indian quartet of Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Sathyanarayana and Harita Bhadra finished third in the 4x100m mixed relay final with a season-best time of 41.06 seconds. The quartet finished third behind China and Thailand, with China winning gold in 40.78 seconds and Thailand taking silver in 40.87 seconds.
India's Pooja Singh also clinched a bronze medal in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.84 metres. While the effort was well below her personal best, it was enough to secure her a place on the podium. Pooja’s medal was also India’s first in the women’s high jump at the Asian Games since Bobby Aloysius won silver in 2002.
Earlier, Gulveer Singh continued his impressive campaign in Nagoya by winning bronze in the men's 5000m. He clocked 13:32.75 to finish third in a closely contested race.
Bahrain's Birhanu Balew won gold in 13:30.79, while Japan's Tomonori Yamaguchi took silver after finishing in 13:31.43. The bronze was Gulveer's third medal at the Games. He had earlier won silver in the men's 1500m and 10,000m events.
With three medals in Nagoya, Gulveer became the second Indian man and fourth athlete from the country to win three track and field medals at a single edition of the Asian Games.
Before Gulveer, Lavy Pinto won three medals at the 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi, PT Usha claimed four at Seoul 1986, while KM Beenamol won three at Busan 2002.
India are currently 10th in the medal standings with 52 medals, including six gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze.
