Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araqchi on Sunday said that there is "no military solution" to the US-Israeli war against Iran, adding that the "only solution" is a negotiated path based on "justice and fairness". Araqchi stressed the importance of a "dignified diplomatic solution" to end what he described as "illegal and unjust aggression" against Iran.
Araqchi also said that a plan Tehran has proposed to Washington could see the Strait of Hormuz reopen within seven days if accepted. He added that Iran has set out clear conditions for reopening the waterway, tied to commitments the United States must take on.
Addressing foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Tehran, Araqchi urged Washington to choose the "path of wisdom and reason." If the US returns to military options, Iran is "better prepared than before" and will "take whatever measures are necessary," he said, while insisting "we remain ready" for diplomacy and that the US has "lost in both war and diplomacy."
However, Araqchi further warned that any new strike on the country would draw a "stronger response than before," as the conflict enters its eighth month.
He dismissed additional penalties, saying "trying new sanctions will not benefit them."
