The annual Torch festival of Yi ethnic group is celebrated in southwest China's ancient town in August. It is celebrated in south side including regions like Yuexi County and the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.

The  torch festival kicked off in Huili City, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Thursday evening, drawing visitors from across the country to the ancient city, where they lit torches, sang and danced together.

"Every year, it's very lively here with people from all ethnic groups coming together to join the celebrations, and everyone is full of joy. For the locals, it feels just like the New Year celebrations for the Han people. People who work outside the city all return home for the festival. Friends and families reunite, and we celebrate together. At the same time, we also want to share our blessings with the visitors and express our gratitude to them for joining us." says one of the attendees.

As one of the highlights of the 2026 Liangshan Yi Torch Festival, a traditional celebration of the Yi ethnic group, Huili offered an immersive experience that combined the region's ecological resources, rich cultural heritage and the unique ethnic traditions.
