Bengaluru: The INDIA bloc will hold a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on November 5, 2026, against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, intensifying its nationwide campaign against the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The Opposition alliance has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that constitutional institutions are being misused to undermine democracy.

The demonstration follows the alliance's protest at Ramlila Maidan and comes amid growing criticism of the electoral roll revision exercise.

INDIA bloc to expand SIR protests nationwide

Karnataka Congress leader B K Hariprasad said the Bengaluru demonstration would form part of the INDIA bloc's nationwide agitation against the SIR exercise.

He said Opposition leaders had decided to expand the campaign across the country, taking the protests to taluk and block levels.

Hariprasad accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to weaken democratic institutions through their alleged misuse of constitutional bodies.

He maintained that the agitation would continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigned.

Opposition raises concerns over voter exclusion

The INDIA bloc has questioned the transparency of the Election Commission's SIR exercise, alleging that eligible voters could be excluded from electoral rolls if the revision is not conducted transparently.

The Election Commission has rejected the allegation.

The Bengaluru protest is part of the Opposition alliance's efforts to intensify pressure on the poll panel over the revision process and its demand for the CEC's resignation.
