Connor will voice Charlie Paley, while Waititi will lend his voice to Willy Wonka in the animated film, which will release worldwide in theatres on November 5, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on December 22.The film presents a new story set in Roald Dahl's beloved chocolate factory universe.

The story line

In 'Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory', Wonka has spent years behind bars after being imprisoned for turning a child into a blueberry during the infamous Golden Ticket contest. After serving his sentence, he returns to his factory determined to bring some sweetness back to a bitter world.

Standing in his way is Charlie Paley and his friends, a group of children facing eviction from their homes. They hatch a plan to break into Wonka's factory, steal a priceless Wonka Bar and save their homes.

However, once inside the fantastical factory, the children discover that Wonka's world is more dangerous and unpredictable than they had anticipated.

Connor, known for 'Heartstopper' and 'Warfare', said he was drawn to the project after seeing the early concept art and the filmmakers' vision.

"I was immediately caught by the early concept art and the directors' vision for the film — capturing the spirit and heart that made the original story so special, whilst imbuing it with something so fresh and unique," Connor said.

Directed by Jared Stern, known for 'The LEGO Batman Movie' and 'Green Eggs and Ham', and Elaine Bogan, whose credits include 'Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia' and 'Spirit Untamed', the film will feature original songs, new characters and familiar faces from the Wonka universe.

Academy Award winner Aron Warner and Timothy Yoo are producing, while Waititi is serving as an executive producer.

Waititi said voicing Wonka offered him the opportunity to explore the eccentric character in a new medium.

"He's so special to me, and the opportunity to voice such an iconic, eccentric candy genius — if a little mischievous at times — is hugely exciting," he said.
