West Bank: About 1,500 Palestinians have been forced from their homes in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron following Israeli military operations that began on 23 October, the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported on Saturday. The agency said another 2,500 people could be displaced in the coming hours.
According to WAFA, the Israeli military has also blocked major roads connecting Hebron with surrounding towns, villages, and refugee camps using earth mounds and concrete blocks.
The Israeli military said the operations were a countermeasure following an attack on Israeli soldiers in Hebron on Friday morning.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described the displacement of civilians in Hebron as a systematic and deliberate act of aggression.
The ministry alleged that Israel was seeking to force more civilians to leave their homes by clearing and destroying entire neighbourhoods.
It called on the international community to take concrete and deterrent measures to protect Palestinians, their land, and institutions amid the military escalation and the growing threat of forced displacement. The ministry also called for an end to what it described as the long-standing Israeli occupation.
