New York: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said US government documents would use the term ‘super intelligence’ instead of ‘artificial intelligence’, while rejecting efforts to establish global controls on the technology.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said the word ‘artificial’ made intelligence ‘sound fake’ and argued that ‘super intelligence’ was a more accurate term.
“From this point forward, all of the United States documents, and hopefully the world's, will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to artificial. So it's super intelligence”, Trump said.

Trump also said the US would not stifle the growth of the technology, which he described as potentially bigger than the Industrial Revolution.
“I'm not going to stifle the growth of something that will be bigger than the Industrial Revolution”, he said.
He said the US would encourage the development of ‘super intelligence’ while monitoring it through the Department of Justice.
“We will only encourage super intelligence. We're going to encourage it, not rein it in. We're going to watch it closely through the Department of Justice”, Trump said.
Trump also dismissed warnings about the risks posed by AI, comparing them to what he described as earlier warnings about climate change.
“These are the same people that are now saying that AI is going to kill us all, that robots are going to attack us, and that everything is going to be a total disaster. Same group of people,” he said.
Trump also said the US was leading China and other countries in the development of ‘super intelligence’ and would seek to maintain that position.
“Whoever wins SI, whoever wins super intelligence wins,” he said.
