Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that Iran and Oman had reached an agreement on a shipping route map for the Strait of Hormuz. The development was reported by Iranian media on Saturday.

Baghaei said talks between Iran and Oman had progressed smoothly despite US obstructions.

Iran and Oman have been negotiating since a few weeks ago to reach an agreement on the designation of a new route in the strait for safe maritime traffic.

Iran's current strategy is to maintain control of the strait until its enemy (US) accepts all its demands and admits defeat.

Iran tightened its control over Hormuz on February 28, barring safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States, following their joint strikes on Iranian territory.
