British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has unveiled his new cabinet, appointing John Healey as finance minister, Wes Streeting as defence secretary, Ed Miliband as foreign minister, Shabana Mahmood as interior minister, and Miatta Fahnbulleh as secretary of state for energy security and net zero.
The appointments were announced on Monday as Burnham began assembling his ministerial team following his appointment as prime minister.
Healey, 66, takes over the Treasury after serving as defence secretary under former Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He resigned from Starmer's government last month after arguing that Britain was "well short" of the military investment needed to protect the country in an increasingly dangerous world.
A veteran Labour politician, Healey brings previous Treasury experience to the role, having served as a junior Treasury minister from 2002 to 2007. As finance minister, he will oversee the government's finances while working with Burnham's administration to secure additional funding for defence spending.
Ed Miliband, who takes over as foreign minister, described the appointment as "the honour of my life".
The appointments mark the beginning of Burnham's new administration as he sets out his government with a reshaped cabinet tasked with delivering on its domestic and international priorities.
