The region has endured days of back-and-forth attacks in a conflict increasingly focused on control of the strait, and the collapse of an interim ceasefire leaves no clear end in sight for the war that began more than four months ago.

Two US service members killed in Jordan: US military
The US military stated that two troops were dead and one remained missing after Iranian attacks on a base in Jordan. They are the first US deaths due to direct Iranian fire since the opening days of the war.
A statement said that they were killed on Friday as the US and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.
It says four other service members who were were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals were later discharged.
The dead were not identified.

The comments came hours after a negotiator said Tehran was suspending its commitments to the interim deal signed about a month ago.
The statement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, still unseen since the war began, was read out on state television after the United States and Iran again exchanged strikes aimed at infrastructure and military targets.

Pakistan, Kuwait urge US and Iran to honour peace agreement amid fresh strikes
Pakistan and Kuwait on Saturday urged the US and Iran to uphold the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last month and avoid any steps that could further escalate tensions amid renewed fighting over the Strait of Hormuz.
The appeal came during a telephone conversation between Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, according to Pakistan's Foreign Office.
The call came as the US and Iran exchanged fresh strikes on Saturday, with attacks targeting military and infrastructure sites as fighting over the Strait of Hormuz intensified.

Kuwait says Iran has struck water desalination plant, second such attack in 2 days
Kuwait's Ministry of Water and Electricity said on Saturday a water desalination and power generation plant was struck by Iran, sparking a blaze.
It was the second time in two days that Iran targeted a water desalination infrastructure in the Gulf Arab country. Kuwait said Iran had targeted a different power and desalination plant on Friday, sparking a fire and causing damage.
Kuwaiti authorities said several generating units were shut down as a precaution.
About 90 per cent of Kuwait's drinking water comes from desalination, and the plants are a critical part of the desert nation's infrastructure.

Iran's armed forces to shift to a "full-scale offensive and destructive" phase: Military adviser
A top Iranian military adviser warned on Friday that Iran's armed forces will shift to a "full-scale offensive and destructive" phase if the United States continues its strikes for another two to three days.
Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, said in an interview with state-run IRIB TV that the policy of "both war and negotiation" has ended, adding that if US attacks continue, Iran's armed forces will no longer limit themselves to retaliatory strikes, and US bases and forces will no longer be safe within any political borders.
Rezaei said Iran has so far exercised restraint to prevent the war from expanding into a broader regional and international crisis, accusing the United States of miscalculating by turning the war into a regional one.
He warned that if the United States continues its anti-Iran actions, the Islamic republic will deploy additional military capabilities, including ground forces, and the war's scope will expand.
He noted that even at the current stage, Iran's responses to the US attacks have been "very heavy", warning that the intensity of Iranian military operations will increase in the coming days.
The United States must "wait for expanded waves of missile and drone attacks", Rezaei said, cautioning Washington against any ground operation against Iran.
The official further declared that the bilateral memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States is now effectively "dead " due to Washington's persistent violations.
He cited Israel's failure to withdraw from southern Lebanon, US disregard for Iranian sovereignty with its military strikes on Iran's coastal areas, and the continued freeze on Iranian assets that had been promised for release.

US strikes on southern Iran kill eight, damage infrastructure: local official
US airstrikes on southern Iran late Thursday night and early Friday killed eight people and wounded 19, according to the deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, whose capital Bandar Abbas was the main target of the strikes.
Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported Thursday that US strikes hit residential areas, communications towers, and bridges in many locations, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik Port, and Qeshm Island.
Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani strongly condemned the US attacks on non-military infrastructure in a letter sent to UN on Thursday.

Iran attacks US military bases in Bahrain
In a statement, Iran’s military said “in response to the crimes of global arrogance,” the Islamic Republic of Iran Army targeted the “aircraft hangar and parking lot” and “fuel tanks” at the Sheikh Isa Air Base and several communication bridges in Bahrain.
The statement said the US had used the base to launch “operations against regional targets, especially our country”.
“We are proud of our military duty to defend this land,” the statement ended.
