New York: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined more than a million participants at the 57th annual NYC Pride March on Sunday, reaffirming the city's commitment to protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ residents.
Marching alongside community members and carrying a sign reading "Fighting for Queer New Yorkers", Mamdani walked near the front of the parade on Fifth Avenue as crowds lined the streets waving rainbow flags.
The annual march, which commemorates the legacy of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, drew more than one million revelers and featured a strong show of political solidarity amid growing national concerns over LGBTQ+ rights.
Mamdani was joined by several elected officials, including New York Governor Kathy Hochul, during the parade.
Addressing participants, the mayor reiterated that New York City would continue to serve as a global haven for the LGBTQ+ community. He also highlighted his administration's efforts to safeguard transgender residents and tackle disparities related to housing and employment affecting queer New Yorkers.
