West-Asia war highlights: Vance in Switzerland for peace talks with Iran
Geneva: US Vice President JD Vance reached Switzerland on Sunday for peace talks with Iran as both nations seek a durable end to their war.
A quadrilateral meeting between Iran, the United States, Qatar and Pakistan will be held at the Buergenstock mountaintop resort in Switzerland on Sunday afternoon, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson to Iranian state media.
Esmaeil Baghaei said that Iran would hold meetings with intermediaries Qatar and Pakistan earlier in the day, adding that the gathering in Switzerland is a follow up on the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed with the U.S. this week.
US and Iranian negotiators headed to a Swiss venue on Saturday for talks on adding key details to their interim agreement to halt the war, hours after Tehran said it closed the Strait of Hormuz because of Israel's attacks in Lebanon and warned that little might be achieved if the fighting doesn't stop.
US President Donald Trump, in response, unleashed a new threat to impose American tolls in the crucial waterway if a final deal with Iran isn't reached in 60 days, saying the money would be for “services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East”.
The agreement calls for toll-free travel for 60 days.
The announcements indicated a rough start to the technical-level talks that key mediator Pakistan said will begin on Sunday, with Qatari mediators also participating.
The Iranian negotiators are being led by parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and include Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, central bank and oil officials, among others.

Trump says no toll on Strait of Hormuz unless US imposes one
U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Saturday that no toll will be charged for passage through the Strait of Hormuz during or after the 60-day interim ceasefire with Iran — unless the U.S. imposes one should peace talks fail.
"There will be NO TOLLS in the Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period, and there will be NO TOLLS after the 60 day period has expired, unless they are imposed by and for the United States of America, should the deal not be completed, for services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East for purposes of both past, present, and future reimbursement of costs," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
