Manchester United produced a stunning second-half comeback to overturn a two-goal deficit and beat Roma in the UEFA Champions League, handing manager Michael Carrick a much-needed boost amid growing pressure over his future.

A run of nine games without a win had left Carrick's position under growing threat, and United looked on course for another damaging result after a disastrous start at Old Trafford  Roma struck twice inside the opening 17 minutes to put the hosts on the back foot. Matias Soule opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Donyell Malen converted a penalty six minutes later to double the visitors' advantage.

The early setback further fuelled frustration among the home supporters. Hundreds of green and gold balloons, a reference to Manchester United's original colours, were released as the teams emerged, while dozens of yellow tennis balls were thrown onto the pitch during the first half in a show of protest.

However, United responded emphatically after the interval. Captain Bruno Fernandes pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, giving the hosts renewed belief. Matheus Cunha then took centre stage, scoring twice in the closing stages to complete a remarkable turnaround. The Brazilian equalised seven minutes from time before finding the net again three minutes later, sparking wild celebrations at Old Trafford.

Cunha's night, however, ended on a sour note. After celebrating his winner by taking off his shirt and jumping into the stands, the Brazilian was booked before being sent off for a late challenge in stoppage time

Bayern Munich beat Atletico Madrid away

In another Champions League fixture, Bayern Munich secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid. The German champions broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through Lennart Karl, who produced a precise left-footed finish to put the visitors ahead. Bayern continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage in the 74th minute. Konrad Laimer found the net after being picked out by an excellent assist from Harry Kane.

Atletico struggled to create meaningful chances against Bayern's organised defence and were unable to find a way back into the contest. The visitors remained in control until the final whistle to secure an impressive away victory and claim all three points.
