London: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who last season guided the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years, has signed a new contract that will keep him at the English champions until June 2030, the club announced on Wednesday.

Arteta, 44, took charge of Arsenal in December 2019 in his first full-time managerial appointment and is now the longest-serving coach in the Premier League.

He has led a turnaround that put the club back in the Champions League fold after a six-year absence. He also won the FA Cup in his first season as Arsenal manager.

Arteta also played for Arsenal, spending the final five years of his playing career at the club.

“It's a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal," Arteta said in a club statement.

“We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

Arsenal co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke said Arteta “has a deep understanding of Arsenal's values and carries them in his heart”.

“He knows what this club means to everyone connected to it and is committed to building on everything we have achieved together,” they said.
