Mumbai: Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, known for films such as 'Kaante', 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' and 'Kaabil', was cremated at Versova ground here on Saturday evening as family members and colleagues from the Hindi film industry gathered to pay their final respects.

Gupta (59) died following an accidental fall at his residence on Friday night.

His mortal remains were brought to his house in Versova from hospital in an ambulance. They were then carried to the crematorium in the same ambulance which was decked with white flowers.

The last rites were concluded at around 8.30 pm at the Versova crematorium ground. The funeral pyre was lit by Gupta's son Shivansh and daughter Dalai.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who was present at the funeral, said it was an emotional moment for Gupta’s friends from the industry.

“It is an emotional moment for all of us. He will be dearly missed. He was a fun-loving person and suddenly he has disappeared. His untimely demise is a shock, it will take time to sink in. We’ve lost so many people recently from the industry and everyone’s contribution has been immense,” Pandit told PTI.

Close friends from the industry including Milap Zaveri, Ronit Roy, Rohit Roy and Mansi Joshi Roy seemed inconsolable.
