Mumbai: Three people were killed, and one was critically injured after a speeding BMW crashed on the Coastal Road in Mumbai early on Sunday, police said.
The incident occurred at 5.20 am when the luxury car was moving at a high speed from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali.
The car lost control near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, and crashed into an under-construction L&T parking site, according to an official from Tardeo police station.
The car was registered in Gujarat and all four occupants, who were residents of Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, were immediately rushed to the nearby civic-run Nair Hospital, where three of them were declared dead.
The deceased have been identified as Shanay Gajar (21), Dhairya Darshan Seth (17) and Aditya Jakasniya (19). The fourth occupant, Aditya Oswal (23), sustained severe injuries and is currently admitted in a critical condition in the hospital's trauma ward, the official said.
Officials have yet to determine who was driving the vehicle, as the survivor's statement is still to be recorded.
Police have launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58-km high-speed freeway connecting Marine Drive in south Mumbai to the Worli end of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link.
