New Delhi: A young man was allegedly stabbed to death, while his friend was injured, after a group of around 12 people attacked them in the Paschim Vihar area here on Wednesday, with police suspecting old enmity as the motive.
The deceased was identified as Kartik, 18, a resident of Jwalapuri Camp. His friend, Aniket, sustained injuries while trying to intervene and is undergoing treatment, police said.
According to police, Kartik had an ongoing dispute with some people from the Meera Bagh jhuggi area. Around 7 am, he had gone there with two friends when an argument broke out with a group of people who were preparing to leave for the Kanwar Yatra.
"The altercation soon turned violent, following which the trio tried to flee. The attackers allegedly chased them and caught Kartik near a petrol pump, where he was assaulted and stabbed multiple times. Aniket was also attacked when he attempted to rescue him," a senior police officer said.
Both the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Kartik dead.
A case has been registered, and two accused have been detained for questioning, while raids are underway to apprehend the main accused and other suspects.
