New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit West Bengal from July 17 to 19, with a focus on border security, governance, law and order, and development, sources said.
This will be Shah's first extensive visit to West Bengal since the BJP formed its first government in the state after securing a historic victory in the Assembly elections in May.
During the three-day visit, Shah will travel to the Jumagach Border Outpost in Siliguri on July 18, where he will interact with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.
He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various BSF development projects, the sources said.
Later in the day, the home minister will chair a meeting on border-related issues concerning West Bengal.
Shah will also review the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state.
As part of his packed schedule, he will preside over a meeting on birth and death registration in West Bengal on Saturday evening.
On the final day of his visit, Shah will travel to Kolkata to chair a meeting reviewing the law and order situation in the state.
He will also inaugurate the first phase of the Museum of Words at the National Library in Alipore and lay the foundation stone for an Amul Dairy curd processing plant at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata.
