Los Angeles: Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is set to star in and produce a film adaptation of the upcoming thriller novel 'Kill Current: A Jon Hendricks Thriller', marking the first project from his new production banner, Two Dragonflies.
According to Deadline, The Arena, an independent studio launched by producer Erik Feig, has acquired the rights to Oliver Lowe's upcoming novel and will finance and produce the adaptation.
Reeves will produce the project alongside his partner Alexandra Grant through Two Dragonflies, with Molly Stern and publisher Zando serving as executive producers.
"I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to develop the character Jon Hendricks with these wonderful collaborators and that this is the project that launches Two Dragonflies which I share with my partner, Alexandra Grant," Reeves told Deadline.
Grant said the project reflects the kind of creative work she and Reeves envisioned when they founded Two Dragonflies.
"Taking Kill Current from publishing into film form, and aligning with The Arena, Oliver Lowe and Zando is the kind of creative work Keanu and I have set up Two Dragonflies to do," she said.
'Kill Current' is the first novel in a planned thriller series centred on Jon Hendricks, a burned-out CIA officer who is pulled back into action to avenge the protégé he trained and lost.
The globe-spanning thriller follows shifting alliances and a race for some of the world's most valuable assets. Lowe's novel is scheduled to be published by Zando in May 2027.
Two Dragonflies, founded by Reeves and Grant, aims to develop stories across art, film, television, animation, comic books, games and literature.
Reeves' upcoming acting projects include Warner Bros' science-fiction film 'Shiver' and 'The Entertainment System Is Down', directed by Palme d'Or winner Ruben Östlund.
He most recently starred in the fourth instalment of the 'John Wick' franchise, which grossed nearly $450 million worldwide.
A spin-off centred on Donnie Yen's character Caine is in post-production, while a fifth 'John Wick' film featuring Reeves' character is in development.
