New Zealand have suffered a major setback in their ongoing ODI series against India, with opener Devon Conway ruled out of the remaining matches after sustaining a concussion during training on Tuesday.
Conway was taken to the Accident and Emergency unit of an Auckland medical facility for assessment following the incident, which occurred ahead of the first ODI.
Left-handed batter Nick Kelly, who was originally named in New Zealand's squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will join the team in Wellington on Friday and replace Conway for the second match of the series on Saturday, New Zealand Cricket confirmed in a press release.
Matt Henry, who collided with Conway during the fielding incident, has been cleared of concussion and is available for selection. Meanwhile, Auckland Aces batter Dale Phillips has been called up to the New Zealand A squad as Kelly's replacement for the final four-day match against India A, which also begins on Saturday.
The second ODI between New Zealand and India will be played at Wellington's Sky Stadium on November 7, with the visitors leading the three-match series 1-0.
Virat Kohli's fluent 74 and an impressive performance from India's pace attack helped the hosts secure a comfortable victory in the rain-curtailed opening ODI at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday.
