Kochi: The Ernakulam Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bail on Friday to Uttar Pradesh-based vlogger Amrit Singh Darren, who was booked for allegedly posting misleading content about Keralam on social media.

Darren had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail after multiple cases were registered against him, including one filed by the state government. Several members of the public, including Fort Kochi-based lawyer Razeem Rasheed, had also lodged complaints against the vlogger.

He was booked under Sections 353(2) and 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 353(2) deals with making, publishing or circulating statements containing false information with the intent to cause public fear or alarm. The provision carries a non-bailable offence.

Darren, who operates an Instagram account under the name 'littichokha_up_', had posted a video making claims about an artwork featuring Mahatma Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah at Kashi Art Cafe in Fort Kochi.

In the video, he also claimed that Muslims constituted the majority of Fort Kochi's population and alleged that beef was commonly served in the tourist destination. The controversial video is no longer available on his Instagram account.

The vlogger had also shared a post about Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram, which was accused of being misleading and allegedly hateful.
