Senior advocate and civil rights activist Prashant Bhushan has questioned the Mumbai Police notice issued to actor Imran Khan, directing him to exit India by October 28.

Imran, nephew of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, was served the notice by the Mumbai Police for allegedly violating provisions under the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Imran is understood to be an American national holding an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card.

"What about the Canadian National Akshay Kumar?" posted Bhushan on X. "Is chanting Modi ki jai on social media not political activity? Or pro-BJP political activities are allowed but anything that offends the BJP is not allowed?" he added.

Actor Akshay Kumar had given up his Canadian citizenship in 2023 and regained his Indian passport.

However, the popular actor was heavily involved in the promotion of the Union government's programme even while he was a Canadian national.

Akshay Kumar famously interviewed Modi before the General Elections in 2019. The high-profile interview was projected as a non-political conversation; however, its timing drew criticism from the opposition.

Akshay Kumar had also hailed various government programmes, including the Swachh Bharat campaign.

Gandhi deplores move against Imran

Meanwhile, Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi deplored the order served to Khan. "I stand in solidarity with every Indian Citizen or not to voice their discontent with the government. One day the police will also have to answer," Gandhi posted on X.

He had earlier offered his support to the actor when he was detained by the police for participating in a Mumbai protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's controversial election reforms.
