Los Angeles: Hollywood star Zendaya will team up with filmmaker Alex Garland for his next feature film, marking his return to the science-fiction genre.

Garland, known for experimental sci-fi films 'Ex Machina' (2014) and 'Annihilation' (2018), will write and direct the untitled project for independent studio A24.

The film is scheduled to begin shooting in 2027. Variety reported that details of the plot and further casting information have not been disclosed. The project marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, following the hit HBO series 'Euphoria' and the recent box-office hit 'The Drama'.

Garland has a long-standing association with A24, which has produced and distributed all his films, including 'Civil War', 'Men' and 'Warfare'.

The independent studio is also behind his upcoming big-budget film 'Elden Ring', an adaptation of the video game featuring Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke. Filming has concluded, with the release date set for March 2028.

Zendaya appeared in two of the biggest hits of 2026: Christopher Nolan's mythological epic 'The Odyssey' and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'. The latter is her fourth superhero film, in which she reprises her role as Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson.

She will next appear in Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune: Part Three', which is scheduled to debut in theatres worldwide in December.
