New Delhi: Author Jhumpa Lahiri's 'Unaccustomed Earth', her second collection of short stories, is getting a series treatment at Netflix with Preida Pinto, Siddharth, and Indraneil Sengupta leading the cast.

Actor Siddharth on Instagram shared his excitement about being a part of Netflix’s upcoming series. Siddharth also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with filmmaker John Wells, calling it a 'bucket list' moment. He thanked Ritesh Batra and casting director Julie Schubert for the opportunity, while also acknowledging makeup artists Hooghuis and Sasha Grossman, hairstylist Jenn Vas and his friend Arjun Bhasin for their work and support.
Published in 2008, 'Unaccustomed Earth' details the lives of second and third generation of Indian Americans and was Lahiri's first book to top The New York Times Best Seller list.
Netflix on Friday unveiled the first look of the series, also titled 'Unaccustomed Earth', which the streamer described as 'a groundbreaking new family drama about a tight-knit Indian American community navigating love, longing, loss, and belonging'.
Show run by Madhuri Shekar, the series features Pinto as Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth as Amit. Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig and Jayant Kripalani also feature in the series.
At the centre of the story is Parul (Pinto), a devoted wife and mother whose return to Cambridge after five years in Mumbai brings her face-to-face with Amit Mukherjee (Siddharth), the love she never quite left behind. Parul has just received a life-changing cancer diagnosis and is back to the place where she truly felt at home.
Lahiri executive produces the series with Shekar, John Wells, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, Celia Costas.
'The Lunchbox' helmer Ritesh Batra will direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the series. The show will premiere on December 17.
